Diet pills and their bad effects are the primary issues that require attention on priority. In the race to look attractive, teenagers often overlook the fact that what kind of health hazards these pills are causing to them.

Diet pills are prescription medicines that require a proper medical supervision. Not all kind of ingredients used in these pills are recommended by various regulatory authorities.

In the year 1992, FDA banned around 111 ingredients after manufacturer failed to prove their worth. The ingredients include amino acids, cellulose, grapefruit etc.

Also, in the year 1996, FDA decided to put warning label and cautionary statement (not recommended for 18 years and below).

PPA is found in many diet pills, anti-tussives and anti-allergic products. PPA is said to have caused stroke resulting in brain-hemorrhage.

Among the other major health hazards these pills are responsible for raised heart beat, high blood pressure and heart failure. These diet pills work best for the people who have a BMI of 27. So, it is very important for teenagers to consult a physician before starting any kind of such medication.

According to an article, Michael Weintraub, M.D, director of FDA's Office of Drug Evaluation V, says, "PPA diet pills are not recommended for use by teenagers also because they are still growing and if they suppress their appetite, they may not get proper nutrition." The dangers of diet pills are too high for teenagers. The author of studies on PPA published in scientific journals, Weintraub adds, "This is especially true of teenagers who don't need to lose weight but think that they do."
